Bangalore Home Cleaning Calendar

Bangalore's weather and festivals bring different cleaning jobs through the year. Here is a simple month-by-month plan, and the best times to book a deep clean.

Month by month

What to clean and when

Tap your month. The current month is marked for you.

January

Cool and dry
  • A good month for a full home deep clean. The dry air helps everything dry fast.
  • Dust fans, lights and window glass.
  • Clean the balcony and grills.

Sankranti in mid-January

February

Dry, getting warmer
  • Clean kitchen cabinets inside and out. Throw away old food packets.
  • Descale taps and shower heads.

March

Hot and dusty
  • Deep clean before Ugadi. Many families start the new year with a clean home.
  • Wipe window glass, tracks and mesh. Dust builds up fast in summer.

Ugadi in March or April

April

Hottest month, some evening storms
  • Clean fan blades every few weeks while fans run all day.
  • Clear balcony and terrace drains before the storms.

May

Hot, with pre-monsoon storms
  • Clean window tracks so rainwater drains out.
  • Check that bathroom and balcony drains flow freely before June.

June

The monsoon starts
  • Open windows on dry days to let damp air out.
  • Check wardrobes and bathroom corners for damp smells or black spots.

July

Rainy and damp
  • Wipe wardrobes, shoe racks and the backs of cupboards.
  • Clean bathroom grout before mould sets in.

August

Rainy
  • Clean the pooja room, kitchen and hall before the festival.
  • Keep checking bathrooms and wardrobes for damp spots.

Ganesha Chaturthi in August or September

September

Rainy, often heavy
  • Book festival cleaning early, so you get the date you want.
  • Clean floors and doormats more often in heavy rain.

Dasara in September or October

October

Heavy rain, then clearing
  • Full home deep clean before Deepavali.
  • Kitchen degreasing after festival cooking.

Deepavali in October or November

November

Cooler, the rains end
  • After Deepavali, clean oil and soot marks from floors and walls.
  • A good time to clean windows and balconies as the rain stops.

December

Cool and dry
  • Guests coming? Refresh the kitchen and bathrooms.
  • A year-end deep clean, so you start January fresh.

Christmas and New Year

Bangalore problems

Three things that make Bangalore homes dirty

Hard water marks

Many Bangalore homes use borewell or tanker water, which is often hard. It leaves white marks on taps, showers, tiles and glass. Wipe fittings dry after use. A bathroom deep clean removes the build-up.

Fine dust

Building work and busy roads bring fine dust into homes, most of all in the dry months. Clean window tracks, mesh and fan blades often. Vacuum dust before wiping, so it does not turn into a paste.

Damp and mould

In the monsoon, bathrooms, wardrobes and corners can get damp and grow black spots. Let fresh air in on dry days, and wipe wet walls after a bath. A deep clean removes most surface spots.

Questions

Calendar questions

When is the best time to deep clean a home in Bangalore?

Any dry month works well. December, January and February are good, because the air is dry and everything dries fast. Many people also deep clean before festivals like Ugadi, Dasara and Deepavali.

How often should I deep clean my home?

For most homes, a full deep clean once or twice a year is enough. Kitchens and bathrooms need it more often: about every 3 to 4 months for the kitchen and every 2 to 3 months for bathrooms.

How do I stop mould in the monsoon?

Let fresh air in on dry days, wipe wet bathroom walls after use, and leave a small gap between wardrobes and the wall. If black spots have already formed, a deep clean of the bathroom and wardrobes removes most of them.

Why do Bangalore bathrooms get white marks?

Many Bangalore homes use borewell or tanker water, which is often hard. When the water dries, it leaves white marks on taps, showers, tiles and glass. Wiping fittings dry after use slows this down. A bathroom deep clean with descaling removes the build-up.
